My favorite word in the English language: Arse

Well, that's how it happened, on Kali's memorial day, internet problems hit and I couldn't play or stream the game Cats and the Other Lives. I took it as a personal insult because the internet started working better the second I would have stopped playing. The internet only worked while I was cooking and eating. When I started playing, it stopped working again. Well, in the end, I managed to get it working for a while in the evening, but I had to stop playing when ER started on TV.

And finally, late in the evening, it turned out that the internet not working was not even due to DNA, but to us. Since I wanted to stream the game, I was afraid that the wifi wouldn't work well enough through the door, and so I wanted a LAN cable for the PS5 just in case. That's why the internet went haywire! So the wifi would have worked normally all day, but the wired internet wouldn't. Resetting the router helped. 

That's never happened before. However, I always had a habit of changing PS5's internet to wired when playing Friday, as wifi is not necessarily enough for online games.

And again I was disappointed because the episodes of ER are censored and cut. The last episode of the 12th season 21 Guns had been cut from everywhere. From the beginning, from the shooting and from the end. Because of the latter also the song, Snow Patrol's "Open your eyes", (beware of shameless promotion of my own video) ended in the middle... It's been a while since I've had any of my favorite episodes on my computer, they were lost when I replaced my computer because there was supposedly no space on the hard drive. I used to watch these episodes often, but now it's not possible.

 

 

It really scared me how much of the next day's episode, the first episode of the 13th season, Bloodline, had been cut. There's a lovely song, David Gray's "Slow Motion", during which some gory things happen. I found on Youtube German dub version of that scene. It was a big surprise then that Bloodline wasn't censored at all. I guess it would have been too difficult, just because of that song.

Another pair of leggings fell apart from the arse in the wash. Will this buying of clothes never end?

When I realized that my newest socks, Happy socks, were broken, I realized that they probably aren't a very durable brand. Luckily, Facebook was able to immediately advertise to me what I need, namely customizable cat socks. They are expensive though and of course plastic, so I won't buy them.

 

 

Now you can have it, fill your pots with porridge! I was so happy when Forsman's Christmas tea went on sale at Prisma. I calculated that I would need more than 24 packages to last me the whole year.

 

 

I guess I shouldn't buy a tea advent calendar, because those teas are always crap.

I went to Lidl mainly for the sugar-free chocolate. I was afraid it would be out of stock, and there seemed to be only dark chocolate on the shelf. Luckily, I realized that behind all that red there seemed to be a hint of blue. The sugar-free milk chocolates were hidden behind the sugar-free dark chocolates.

Chocolate is still amazingly cheap at Lidl, only 2.49. I think it's very similar to Lindt chocolate, which costs over 6 euros at Siilinjärvi's supermarket, for example. In that same store, Stephen King's The Long Walk costs 19.90, while everywhere else it costs no more than 13.90. I feel like saying that some people are fucking greedy bastards. 

 

Summer without summer

13 degrees. I didn't go anywhere on my birthday. But I can't complain. I had champagne with strawberries, strawberry curd, strawberry cake, concerts to watch and games to play. I'll have to go party some other time, when the weather is better and I'm feeling better. If that ever happens.

 

 

I bought myself the game Squirrel with a gun as a birthday present, I've wanted it for a long time and it happened to be on sale.

Great summer. It's July and I haven't had to wear summer home clothes, such as dresses, skirts or shorts. I haven't had to take the fans out of storage. It's still better this way. I got traumatized last summer when I felt dizzy after a run, and it was "only" +22 at the time.

This summer I've mainly focused on growing pumpkins, and okra has also been a byproduct. So in the game Dreamlight Valley, that's my happy place.

There was a power outage on the evening of July 1st. Luckily I had time to shower and grease my feet, otherwise it would have been more difficult in the dark.

 

Writing

LibreOffice has strange ways. The last time I complained that I couldn't hyphenate in it. Well, the next day I just had to open the text file in question, and LibreOffice hyphenated it automatically. Of course, I had opened it quite a few times the day before.

And there are always new problems. They claim that it's worth using something like a line register. Using it just increases the number of pages in the book a lot (the first time the number of pages increased from 326 to over 400), and thus the price.

When I added page numbers, the style of the entire file was then some kind of Grid8. Then try changing the style settings.

It's an endless battle with LibreOffice. I save the file with certain settings, and it has 350 pages. When I open the same file again, it only has 325 pages. Did the line register get lost somewhere? Does LibreOffice hyphenate the file again every time it's opened? There are lot of mysteries, and nothing will ever be finished.

You can enable the line register in at least three different settings. And when you enable these, each one results in a completely different number of pages. And the question is, can LibreOffice even do line registers/baseline grids? At least with one of those settings, the lines are just randomly in some places.

I have set the page height to 21.50cm. But it always changes by itself to 21.52cm. The same thing every time I open the file: the line register has disappeared from use, and an extra two millimeters have appeared in the page size.

I forced myself to take several days off from fighting with LibreOffice, because it's nerve-wracking and eyes-wracking, and the stress is devastating.

I also don't understand why BoD's instructions tell you to save the fonts in that Word text file, if the book has to be sent to them as a PDF file.

And then I started playing with Books on Demand's cover editor. Luckily, there is one, so you don't have to do it yourself. I've had the cover image for my debut novel chosen for a long time. Although BoD suggested this.

 

 

 

ER

Carter has really started to annoy me this time watching ER.

Season 9: Tells Abby he's not going anywhere. Leaves for Africa soon.

October: "Dear Abby" letter from Africa.

January: Returns to Chicago with a new pregnant woman. Someone might say that's fast action?

There's a reason why some people hate Kem. And then you are supposed to cry when the child dies. I LAUGH.

And it's all Carter's actor's fault. He was said to be a pretty shitty person. He hated all the new actors who came to the series, especially Kellie Martin. He hated that the new guys got screen time. Didn't want Carter and Lucy together. Wanted Carter and Abby together. Wanted himself off the show. As a result, the plot of the series changed from what was intended.

 

 

Moments before destruction

It's annoying when I have to stop reading and writing because of eye pain and overburdening them. When reading and writing is too much for my eyes. I don't know what to do about it. Should I send my eyes on a (beach) vacation somewhere?

With my eyes and neck aching, I then wrote three different short stories at the same time. They went quite well, I even finished one of them.

 

 

 

I was so stressed out about the end of the ski jumping season that it was hard to sleep the next night because my heart was beating too much. Spectator sports are tough, it takes a toll. If I'm still alive when the next season starts, I should come up with something because I don't want to pay a penny to the crappy Viaplay. Why can't I get Polish Eurosport, for example? Except through illegal streams. Well, Viaplay just announced a cheaper package that would even include ski jumping.

Red Bull organized its own ski jumping event in Poland after the season ended. Who was responsible for the safety of that? They jumped at terrible speeds and I really saw red when Domen Prevc fell his too long jump. He was so high up at the end of the hill. Many meters above the hill record. They would have to pay a lot of money to compensate for a possible injury or worse. Life-threatening activity.

I went to the library again. It was a bit annoying when the return machine couldn't accept the course book. That crappy, heavy (2.1 kg!) and abnormal book in every way.

Spoiler from tv-show ER, beware!

I got to continue watching ER, in the sixth season, when the episodes shown on a free channel here progressed to that point. It's so bad to watch Lucy spend many episodes worrying about a patient her age who needs a heart transplant. Lucy doesn't know that she herself doesn't have much time left to live. I've probably watched the sixth season episode "All in the Family" dozens of times in total.

 

 

 

I was totally shocked when I saw that the episode "Be Still My Heart" that was airing on tv here had been cut. The legendary ending scene had actually been shortened! The TV version was missing the scene where Carter tries to get up, and then the zoom in on Carter's eyes when he sees Lucy in horror. I've seen that scene so many times that I know it by heart, so I knew right away that something was seriously wrong. What a bloody sacrilege to cut the episode! I can't stand it! If they have to cut the episode, they should take out some less important scene!

Then I waited to see how badly the next day's All in the Family had been cut... well, I didn't notice anything. I started wondering if ER has been cut in streaming services. Many TV series fall victim to the slaughter when the music is changed for the DVD release.
