Ski Jumping World Cup: The end of the season

Here is live coverage of the Ski Jumping World Cup. The season dominated by Domen is over, and fortunately it ended happily. 

 

 

Kulm, ski flying

Domen Prevc won the first practice round and was second in the second. Domen third in qualifying, so we're going in the wrong direction. But what exactly happened there? One Norwegian DSQ, another NPS, like Anze! Apparently Anze tripped and his suit went bad, the margins are small.

What is FIS doing? Was this below written while being drunk and as a joke? Domen's world record is 254.5 meters, and jumping over it in Kulm would require death, the hill is too small for that.

 

 

Saturday

Viaplay only shows the competition online. Viaplay had changed its system so that households must be registered. But it refused to send the required email on any device. You're doing a great job, Viaplay, always. We're paying for nothing when even one of the paid channels doesn't show properly.

The longest jump of the trial round for Domen. I saw that jump afterwards on Twitter. 238 meters, a deep squat landing with ass slanting to the ground. Is that why the jury lowered the stage for Domen in the first two rounds of the race?

Domen in second after the first round. Domen won by 1.1 points ahead of Embacher, who jumped well all weekend, with the others far behind.

Viaplay didn't show the award ceremony, even though the broadcast was only online. Viaplay gives me more reasons to hate itself every day.

Ren missed Friday's qualifier due to flight issues and is now stuck in Dubai due to airspace closure. Trump's fault!

 

Sunday

The race is even on TV, amazing.

Domen won the qualifying. 240.5 meters with bad style points, so did his ass hit the ground again, or worse? The answer.

Domen in the lead after the first round. I was scared when the wind turned against him. Wellinger in fifth place.

Domen won. 245,5 meters, took Peter's hill record. How many of the jumps this weekend were deep squat landings? I was spooked when it seemed to go too far. Andreas Wellinger fifth.

Tomofumi didn't make it to Kulm on Saturday. On Sunday, he got two personal bests and fourth place, only 0.3 points off the podium, on borrowed skis. Ren, on the other hand, is still stuck in Dubai.

 

Lahti

Domen has never done well in Lahti, so expectations are low. Friday's one-round race will determine whether Domen can break the streak of consecutive wins.

Ren is still stuck in Dubai, but tries to get to Lahti by Saturday. He can send the bill for lost earnings directly to Trump.

Friday

Domen won the first training round. But shouldn't Domen have have no chance in Lahti?

Domen won, and FIS social media was already glowing with a record seventh consecutive victory and a confirmed victory in the overall World Cup. Domen's inspection took a suspiciously long time, and then I noticed that Raimund was being congratulated. Domen was disqualified because his skis were too long (1 cm). Quite a scandal. This is what some people have been hoping for for a long time. Raimund's first victory, and Zografski's first podium.

"He won, but he lost. He lost, but he won."

And only a little later did it dawn on me that despite the disqualification, Domen secured the World Cup victory. Still, it's pretty embarrassing for FÍS to glorify that and Domen's Matti Nykänen achievement after the disqualification...

"Domen forgot to eat his sandwich." The allowed length of skis depends on the weight of the jumper... 100 grams...

 

Domen Prevc: "I need to calibrate the scale in the hotel. It showed 59.5, but on the hill it showed 59.4. I was 100 grams too light. They disqualified me, and I have the Crystal Globe - definitely not the way I wanted, but I will remember this day forever."

 

How does this work? Do ski jumpers travel with their own scales? I guess hotel rooms don't come with scales?

I already said that Finland is not a crappy country, but I guess it is... A sad way to ensure a World Cup win. After all, there has been criticism for a long time about how ridiculously small the margins are in ski jumping.

Saturday

Ren has arrived in Lahti! Has Domen eaten enough?

Domen 18th in qualifying, a pretty unsuccessful jump. Has mental issues finally caught up with Domen, or did he "get too fat"?

Domen second after the first round. Wellinger didn't make it to the second round, meaning his recent good development came to an end on the concrete in Lahti.

Domen second in a race won by Tschofenig. It feels bad that Ren could lose his third place in the World Cup to Tschofenig because of Trump.

Domen reportedly checked his weight 30 times today. They suspect the reason for the weight being too light is his new jumpsuit, which is lighter than the previous one.

 

Sunday

Superteam. Naturally, Wellinger is not on the German team, it's a wonder he was at the Olympics.

Domen won the trial round, which Slovenia would have won based on the results.

Ren was disqualified for being underweight, meaning he had unfortunately forgotten to eat his sandwich. Slovenia in the lead after the first round, and second after the second.

Austria wins, Slovenia second and Finland sensationally third. Finland's first podium in 12 years.

 

 

Oslo 

Timi is not on the Slovenian team, and Hörl ended his season due to back problems.

Friday

A little windy here and there and a little delay. Domen won the practice round, shared the win with Embacher in qualifying. Anze third, Aalto fourth, this is scary.

Saturday

Viaplay is not showing the race on TV. The weekend races are in danger due to bad weather.

Domen 42nd, Wellinger 16th, Max leads! First win for Gregor, Max second and Naoki third, Wellinger 17th. Interesting race, nothing else to say.

Sunday

Domen won the qualifying, Anze second. Viaplay will show the race on TV.

A terrible farce and a wind lottery. After the first round "Tomofumi leads the lottery race", Anze second and Aalto third. Domen 9th, Wellinger 12th. Raimund didn't dare to jump. I just hoped that everyone would survive. In the end, the second round was canceled as expected. So Naito's first win and Aalto's first personal podium.

Viaplay of course didn't show the awards ceremony. "If misery had to be defined, it would be Viaplay." 

 

Vikersund, ski flying

In Slovenia, they paint ***** on the wall. If Domen gets a red card, he will not be allowed to participate in Planica. Hoffmann ended his season early.

Friday

They kept changing Domen's start gate on the first practice round. 14-12 (jury), 12-11 (coach), 10-11 (jury). It took a long time for him to get green light. 245 meters, far better than anyone else. It looks like a deep squat, but at least he didn't fall like I feared. Well, based on the photos it would have been doomed as fallen. Did he get any injuries? Does Domen have any chance to survive?

In the second practice round, Domen won (gate 9) and Wellinger third (gate 14). Wellinger won here a year ago, does he have a chance?

Domen won the qualifying round, Wellinger 33. It seemed like there was quite a tailwind.

Saturday

Domen won the practice round, quite a few gates lower than the others.

I was hoping that Tschofenig would have a short jump, and my secret wish came true, he didn't make it to the second round. It's so annoying that Ren could lose third place in the World Cup because of Trump. Roju was disqualified for being underweight, I guess he's been in the sauna too much with Domen.

Sunday

Kasper fell in qualifying and hit his head, qualifying was cancelled, trial round was cancelled, the competition was postponed all the time, finally it was cancelled.

Planica, ski flying

I've been waiting for this weekend for a long time, but I'm also terribly afraid that Sunday's awards ceremony won't be shown in Finland. Yle is showing the race the same as last year, when all the awards ceremonies were shown in the Arena. What if they're not shown now? I can't stand it, and I'm thinking about setting up illegal streams just to be sure.

Bad weather is forecasted. Hoffmann will return for the last race because he's in the top 30 of the World Cup.

 

Thursday

Early wake-up, qualification at 11 am. When I woke up, only the first practice round was going on, and for some reason the EPG claimed that the broadcast had started an hour earlier... did the TV think that the clocks were already being turned now? Not only had the schedule been grossly advanced, but the weather postponed it. But it is rare to see practice jumps on Finnish TV. I missed Wellinger's jump (20th), Domen 4th. No second practice round.

Anze won the qualifying, Domen second, Embacher third, Wellinger 31st. I remember well how a year ago Anze won the last race of the season, and Domen set a world record.

Weather warning and hazard bulletin for Friday and Saturday. Wind and up to 15cm of snow.

Friday

After the first round, Domen is leading, Ren second, Wellinger eighth. Need more people between Ren and Tschofenig, wink wink for Wellinger.

Domen wins, Ren second, Tschofenig third. Oh my, that gap needed some filling. I can't stand it if Ren isn't on the podium on Sunday. Wellinger 8. Embacher fell on the descent.

Yle didn't show the awards ceremony, so there's no hope for Sunday? I feel like crying because of that.

 

Saturday

A normal four-man team competition, what the hell? In this day and age?

I can't say I was terribly interested. Slovenia's fourth man is such a weak link that they have no chance. And how are Germany doing with Wellinger as the anchor?

After the first round, Slovenia and Germany had a tough fight for fourth place, with Austria and Japan fighting for victory.

The initial flight of Domen's first jump was even more frightening to watch than usual. And apparently for a good reason! On the trial round Domen almost fell. Too scary!

 

 

And... in the second round, Domen had the same kind of head-butt as in the practice round, but somehow managed to stretch it to less than 200 meters. It's a pretty bad moment to forget how to jump, all three jumps on Saturday were similar hazards. Doesn't bode well for tomorrow's season finale.

 

 

Before the last jumpers, Norway had somehow taken a surprise lead, but Forfang dropped Norway to third. Unfortunately, Austria won, Japan second. Slovenia fifth, Germany fourth.

Yle showed the award ceremony. Not yesterday, certainly not tomorrow either?

For some reason after that there was some individual award ceremony according to the situation at Planica 7, no sense. Yle cut off the broadcast just when Domen was standing on the highest podium.

Sunday

Turning the clocks, or waking up before ten in the old time. Two clocks rang at the same time again, like a year ago. Domen had won the trial round.

It went well until Embacher, red light. I thought I would miss Domen's jump, and I turned on the recording. But I didn't. The conditions changed, and the last jumpers' jumps went badly, except for Domen. Amazing jump, no wobble. Domen third after the first round, Wellinger 10th. Tschofenig far too many places ahead of Ren.

Domen second in the race, another amazingly calm jump. Lindvik won. Wellinger 11th. The conditions did spoil the race.

Domen won Planica 7, Ren dropped to fifth. In addition to the World Cup, Domen also won the Ski Flying Cup.

 

 

It makes me cry that Tschofenig beat Ren. As an evil person, I hoped for Tschofenig to be disqualified, although I don't even know if that would have been enough. Ren is the moral third in the World Cup. Ren didn't get to a single podium, so the defeat is complete. Ren looked really depressed when he was leading the race...

With the help of a VPN (Singapore), I was able to watch the FIS live broadcast of the race on Youtube. Just in case Yle wouldn't show the awards ceremony, but luckily it did. I didn't have to try, for example, for illegal streams from Poland. But is a VPN a solution to not having to pay for the crappy Viaplay?

 

 

There is still the dangerous Red Bull event left in the season, where this time Janne Ahonen is also a team captain. I finally managed to find information that the event in question, Red Bull Target Jumping, is already on Wednesday, April 1st.

 

Winter olympics 2026: Ski jumping

To put it mildly, I have bad memories of the previous Winter Olympics in Italy 20 years ago. I will never get over the fact that Saku Koivu's stick broke in the final and that decided the Olympic gold medal. 

The fact that there is no team competition of four (male) jumpers at the Olympics this time is sacrilege. "They are butchering the classics", as Homer Simpson would say.

In the week before the Olympics, shocking information was delivered to my consciousness: Domen Prevc has never been at the Olympics before! Ten years in these circles, and before that he had not made it to the Slovenian Olympic team.

As the Olympics approached, it was sad to look at the results lists of the ski jumping competitions, when so many of the top jumpers had not received an Olympic spot. Was it worth changing the system? No.

The bad weather birds knew how to tell before the Olympics that the profiles of the Predazzo hills are not suitable for Domen. That they are similar to those in Zakopane and Innsbruck.

I had to think about it, but then the news came that Domen and Nika would carry the Slovenian flag at the opening ceremony!

Thursday, normal hill training

Slovenia wasn't interested in coming until Friday. Vilho Palosaari did well in training. Who will take the gold/medal from Domen? Someone nobody? Reminds me of traumas from Amman.

Friday, opening ceremony

Domen as the Slovenian flag bearer. It was a "blink and you miss it" moment.

 

 

Sunday, normal hill practice

Domen fourth in the first practice round, they couldn't show second place in the live standings but it was miserable (10th), 21st in third. The worst Slovenian, so it's possible that he won't make it to the mixed team.

Monday, normal hill

I expect a really even and exciting race. I have all my hopes for Domen on the large hill. Somewhere it was claimed that Domen was aiming for a top 10 finish. Domen was 13th in the only normal hill race of the season. What excites me most is whether Domen will make it to the Slovenian team in the mixed team race.

Domen 11th in the trial round, Andreas Wellinger 12th.

Dome 8th in the first round, five points off the top and 2.3 points off the bronze. It's a shame that Areena's broadcast is not a ski jumping feed but a TV2 broadcast. With this tactic, I won't see the award ceremony, big BOO. So I resorted to (my mother's) HBO Max.

A victory for the German mafia in the form of Raimund, Kasper second, Gregor shared bronze with Ren after a miserable season. Domen sixth, Wellinger 17th.

A surprisingly good placement for Domen, actually. He seemed satisfied with his second jump and that's the most important thing. Hopefully there will be medals from these games.

Domen said he was happy with his placement, but hoped he would succeed tomorrow because of Nika. That was already my thought a year ago in the mixed team competition at the World Championships...

 

Tuesday, mixed team

I can't decide whether to believe in the chance of a medal. Somehow it feels like fourth place is the most likely. Based on the individual competitions, Slovenia would have been a close third.

As expected, Wellinger is not on the German team. Anze was selected for the Slovenian team even though she finished worse than Timi on the normal hill. So two Nikas, Anze and Domen.

After the trial round started, I had a eureka moment when I noticed that HBO Max was showing it live. What fun things have I already missed? And when I finally managed to connect the broadcast to the TV...

Dome ran 98 meters in the trial round. But then, based on the results of the trial rounds, Slovenia would be in second place.

Slovenia in the lead after the first round. I can't stand this, it's scary. I never thought Slovenia could win. With these results in the individual competition, Anze would have been second and Domen third...

Olympic victory for Slovenia by over 30 points. I was afraid that Domen would fall or something.

Luckily I saw the victory ceremony, thanks to my mom's HBO Max.

 

 

If this had been an individual competition, Anze would have won and Domen would have been second. Anze's overnight improvement (from 26th to 1st) is what made this gold possible.

 

 

 

Thursday, first practice on the large hill

Domen in tailwind practice 4th, 10th and an overwhelming first. I had already given up hope... In the last practice round Raimund 2nd, the world's best third and my hated Sundal 4th. I'm afraid that if Domen doesn't win, someone I don't like will.

Friday, second practice on the large hill

When I noticed that the practice is also shown on HBO...!! Domen won the first practice round by 0.6 points before Hörl. I immediately wondered after that if Domen should continue practicing. Both Domen and Hörl skipped the second practice round.

 

Saturday, Valentine's Day, large hill

A day I've been waiting for with fear for a long time.

"The most important competition of his career." Why do I even care? I guess it's some kind of madness. Bread and circus fun. Ten years of fandom culminates in this race. Will Domen become Matti Nykänen or not? According to odds, Domen is quite the number one favorite.

Rain, it was revealed at the start of the trial round. What does this mean? Domen is number one in the trail round with a 0.6 point difference to Ren, who has announced that he wants more than bronze from these olympics.

Domen has won the last 3 rounds, he should still win two more, or even one...

After the first round, Domen is second, 7 points behind Ren and 2 points ahead of Sundal. I prefer Ren to Sundal... The difference is so big that I no longer believe in the chance of gold, because Domen should do really well and Ren should fail. I'm more afraid that someone/someone will still pass Domen. The most annoying thing is if Sundal passes. Poles on Twitter really hope that Sundal will "pee and shit".

Domen wins the Olympic Games by 6.8 points ahead of Ren, Kasper third and Sundal fourth.

I didn't cry until I saw Ren crying from disappointment, apparently together with his father. :(

This season some jumpers have tried to psych Domen out with their bullshit, and each of them has failed. Hörl during the 4 hills tournament. Raimund after the mixed team, he thinks individual gold is more important and that's why he can go relaxed on the large hill. Ren before the large hill, he actually said he wanted more than bronze and that he knew from experience that Domen can be won.

I hope Japan wins the super team so that Ren can get the gold. I believe more in Finland's medal chances than Slovenia's in the super team. Anze should do Anze again.

 

Monday, superteam

Wellinger is on the German team so I have to hope for a medal for Germany because his season has been so terrible.

Today I hope to see Ren's tears again, tears of happiness this time. It felt bad when Domen celebrated on the podium, and Ren, red-eyed, swallowed tears next to him.

After the first round, Austria is leading, Slovenia second, Poland third, Germany fourth and Japan fifth. Domen faltered on the way down.

After the second round, Austria is leading, Poland second, Norway third, Germany fourth and Slovenia fifth. A tight fight for bronze, Slovenia less than 2 points away from it.

In the last round, just before Domen's jump, the weather changed, it started to snow heavily and there was a break... and TV2 started showing something else! Luckily they didn't do that in previous competitions.

With Germany leading and Kasper failing, the last round was cancelled. Thus, Germany lost a possible medal, and Poland was saved, and Japan?? The results of the second round were final. The jury had only bad options, but still, it's a shame for Wellinger, Germany missed the medal by 0.3 points. The headless man who lost his father got a medal. Austria finally got a medal in the ski jumping, in the last race. A lot of things to be said, but here we go.

Domen thought that if he hadn't faltered on the landing of the first jump, they would have won a medal (1.9 points from bronze). Is that why he looked so depressed during the competition? And why he tried too much on the second jump? Anze's first word to Domen: "Sorry." Hopefully these two Olympic champions don't beat themselves up too much, the games as a whole exceeded expectations.

 

 

 

So within a year Domen Prevc has speedrun ski jumping, and he's about to become a legend alongside the one and only Matti Nykänen.

 

 

 

Ski Jumping World Cup: Towards the Olympics

Poland

It was a bit of a disappoinment when so many jumpers missed out on Zakopane. Only four of the top 10 of the World Cup were there. 53 jumpers in the qualifiers.

Domen only 8th in the first training round. Only the third Slovenian, so he won't make it to the super team, right? Domen first in the second training round.

Domen only 10th in the qualifiers, and only the third Slovenian. At what point did those super teams have to be chosen?

Domen not in the team, quite a scandal. On the other hand, does he need a rest? Later it turned out that Domen wanted a rest himself. Wellinger also wasn't in the team, so a competition without my favorites. So I chose the right day to drink. Qualifying winner Fettner didn't make it to the Austrian team. The expectation is an overwhelming victory for Austria.

"Will Poland make it to the podium?"

The expected victory for Austria and second place for Slovenia, Poland third.

 

 

Sunday

Preliminary information from Poland said that it would snow and be windy. Domen won the trial round.

Viaplay didn't show the race on TV, but luckily it was on Yle.

Domen 12th after the first round, so those dreams were shattered. Wellinger 16th, only a point and a half behind Domen, and actually a longer jump.

Wellinger 22nd, Domen 27th. That's when you know it's going badly when you lose to Wellinger. Anze won, so a Slovenian again.

Is Poland a shit country?

 

 

Japan

Domen second in qualifying after Roju. Wellinger not in. His time for the Olympics is running out.

Saturday's race started at 8:15 a.m. my time, and I was woken up appropriately, after five hours of sleep.

Domen won with a superior second-round jump, even though his shoe broke. I did wonder what kind of piece was fluttering there.

"Even before landing, the zipper on one of his shoes broke, which made it very difficult to complete the jump."

"I landed with great force, my shoe came off when I landed."

The TV only managed to record three minutes of the broadcast. Well, Sunday's race is not on TV at all, so I can't complain about the recordings.

 

 

Sunday, 4 am my time

I woke up at exactly 5 am, the second round was just about to start. Of course I didn't know the situation, that Domen was leading after the first round. Domen won the competition, even though the second jump was a horrible looking wobble.

"I mean it was tough, especially because I made a big mistake in the second round where I was a bit too aggressive. I wasn’t able to put the real power in the right direction, so my skis came up a bit too high and I had trouble but fortunately I got lots of wind, which helped with those essential meters."

So Domen won both competitions in Japan, although his shoe broke on Saturday and the second jump failed on Sunday.

In between here, there were, to put it mildly, dramatic World Ski Flying Championships.

 

 

Germany, Willingen

Before Willingen, I was also scared of things outside of ski jumping itself. For example, all that hatred towards the nein nein nein person. He would need a bodyguard.

On Friday, there were a mixed team competition, and I started to wonder if Domen would be on the team. He wasn't on the previous World Cup team competition either.

As I watched the first training round, I started to get scared. The headwind was so strong that the others were jumping 150 meters from platform 4, so Domen would run out of platforms and could have a life-threateningly long jump. I have long been afraid that Domen would get injured before the Olympics. Every jump is a chance to get injured. Domen jumped from platform 2, and only 131 meters, 16th place. Is this Domen's current level, or did he play it safe?

Now it's a bad situation when he runs out of platforms in Willingen. It's not good if Domen (and the others) have to hold back and fear for their lives.

Domen won the second training round, 148 meters, from stage 6 even though there was a lot of headwind.

Domen IS in the team, Wellinger is not. Slovenia wins the one-round mixed team competition, 0.6 points ahead of Germany. Yle Areena didn't show the awards ceremony, boo.

 

 

Saturday

Saturday morning started with the news that the FIS wants to exclude Slovenian ski jumpers from the competition due to hate speech against Germany on social media. Yes, every stone will be turned so that Domen is not allowed to jump. I guess we have to start believing in the German mafia. Are conspiracies always true?

Domen second in qualifying.

Quite a wind lottery in the first round. Domen in the lead after the first round, Wellinger fifth!

For Domen in the second round too long jump 155 meters with a flat-footed descent, ass slanting to the ground. That's exactly what I've been afraid of, an overlong jump, a fall and an injury. What would have happened if he had tried a telemark? So an overwhelming victory for Domen. Wellinger sixth, what a stroke of luck just before the Olympics, from the 2018 Olympic champion.

"At the end, I was thinking about how I would land safely so that everything would be fine. The Olympics are just around the corner and I want to arrive in Predazzo healthy. I did everything I could to land safely."

 

 

 

I could see the victory ceremony, wonderful. Domen seemed to be on the verge of tears on the podium, it must have been a difficult week for him in the shadow of the ski scandal.

One more competition before the Olympics, scary.

 

 

 

Sunday

Domen won the qualification, Wellinger 18th, Timi the first to drop out of the race.

Domen in the lead after the first round, Anze second, the world's best fourth, Wellinger 11th. They still have to survive one more jump before the Olympics.

Domen won by an overwhelming 31.7 points. Wellinger 8th. The award ceremony was not shown, boo.

I had already started thinking about how I could see the award ceremonies at the Olympics. At least not on Yle, but maybe on HBO Max? Or else I just have to hope for the perfect result: Domen first, Wellinger second, a Finn third.

 

 

Senseless Domen drama at the Ski Flying World Championships

Ski Flying World Championships, Oberstdorf

Thursday, qualifying

Fortunately, Yle showed the competition, Viaplay did not. My favorite jumper Domen Prevc holds the Oberstdorf hill record. Domen won both training rounds. My other favorite, Andreas Wellinger, was in training but not in the qualifying round, so he did not make it to the German team.

The jury lowered the platform to Domen by three, but Domen still had the longest jump of the qualifying round and won.

Friday, first and second round

"Is Domen Prevc the only one who can beat Domen Prevc in Oberstdorf?" How wrong we were!

Domen was also the best in the trial round with a 21-point difference to the next.

Coach request -5 platforms!! Domen had difficulties in the first jump, a shaky start. Only 204 meters, but still second place after Lindvik. The second jump was only two stages. Domen was in the lead after the first day with 14 points, Ren was second.

Saturday, third and fourth round

Domen won the tailwind test round, 3 stages lower than the others.

Domen had a great jump in the third round, 4 stages lower than the others, almost a 50-point lead before the last round.

Domen won the ski flying world championship by 60 points. His teammates didn't lift Domen up because Domen didn't want to, boo. "Let's save it for tomorrow", wtf? Domen said he wanted to save his suit?

 

 

I didn't see the victory ceremony, boo.

 

 

Sunday, team competition

Wellinger was not selected to the German team.

I didn't expect such drama from the team competition!

While Lindvik was waiting to jump, he complained about something. The reason was revealed... lone skis went down the hill. At first, I thought Lindvik had forgotten to fasten his skis. Did Lindvik make a "Tande"? Then we thought that they had to be a trial jumper's skis. And then the real plot twist... those skis were Domen's! What the hell happened? Was it Domen's carelessness, or did someone throw the skis down the hill? People were shouting sabotage. Even though Domen's spare pair was quickly whisked to the tower, he was ultimately not allowed to jump at all, so Slovenia's chances of a medal were gone. Slovenia claimed in their protest (based on trial jumper's eyewitness account) that someone hit Domen's skis with an umbrella and knocked them down.

Then there was a debate about whether Slovenia would jump in the second round. Out of solidarity for Domen, the others didn't want to jump, but because Domen wanted to jump, they did in the end.

Incredible drama. I laughed even though I should have cried because it was my favorite Domen. And because with worse luck there could have been casualties.

 

 

I was hoping for Japan to win, and fortunately that happened before Austria. A whole new country was added to the group of ski flying world champions. Even without Domen's mess, Slovenia would probably have only finished fourth.

Fact: Domen put his skis in the wrong place. But the question is why did he do that? According to the rules, there must be a FIS person there who is responsible for holding the skis. But in Domen's case, this was not the case, so he was forced to put his skis somewhere. Because if he hadn't gone to the equipment control, he would have been disqualified.

This is where it happened. The suit control is right before the jump, and after the control, the suit is not allowed to be touched anymore.

 

 

We'll see how this scandal affects Domen, especially in terms of the Olympics. Ever since Domen's season started going so well, I've been hoping for an Olympic victory for him. If that doesn't happen, I'll be disappointed.

This season, Domen would have a unique opportunity to join the rare group of people who have won all five: world championship, world flying championship, 4 hills tournament, Olympic victory, and overall World Cup victory. So far, only one person has been able to win all five, Matti Nykänen.

Busy frosty week

Monday

Since it had been a week since my last run, I had to go out into the cold, even though I haven't had time to get a longer padded jacket. Well, it was hot out there, supposedly a frost warning and "only" -13. Luckily I didn't put on a third shirt.

I had decided a while ago that I would get Netflix as soon as the last episode of Stranger Things came out, and I did it now. Netflix has a lot of things to watch, including the latest season of Black Mirror and the second of Squid Game. I didn't know that new seasons had also come out of Alice in Borderland and the real-life version of Squid Game. Will I have time to watch everything in a month?

 

 

I realized something terrible. In the game Hello Kitty Island Adventure, I can be stuck with one day to get through the game. That I'd only need one more day of loan time. That would be pretty bad luck. And it's especially annoying since I made a mistake earlier that cost me two days of progress. I started thinking about the outrageous option of keeping the game for that extra illegal day, and then just paying the library's late fee. Because if I had to borrow the game again for just one day...

Tuesday

Epiphany and the end of the 4 hills week in ski jumping. The moment of truth not only for the hill week but also for Hello Kitty.

In honor of that, I felt miserable. Strain, nausea, heart pounding, breathless.

Domen won the 4 hills tournament. Despite feeling miserable, I had to eat some victory ice cream.

 

 

Then there was a moment of truth in Hello Kitty. When I got best friends with Wish me mell, I thought I would have just enough time. But it wasn't the last quest, but the second to last. So instead of Wednesday, I wouldn't be finished until Friday. So that two-day mistake cost me everything. So I have to borrow the game again because of two days. After 71 days of playing, I would only need two more days of borrowing time.

 

Wednesday

I had to go to the library to return Hello Kitty, luckily I was feeling better. Colette's book The Cat was supposed to be on the shelf in the main library, but of course (again) it wasn't on its own shelf, but on a display table. But I got it! After half a year of obsession, I finally got The Cat!

 

 

Could there be a better start to the year? Domen won the 4 hills week, and I got the book I had wanted for a long time.

Thursday

23 degrees below zero, but I still had to go to Lidl because they were selling a glass kettle. I had been waiting for it to come on sale there. The price was 25 euros, but 5 euro discount on the app, so I had to borrow my spouse's phone.

Good news: Lidl still had sugar-free milk chocolate. Bad news: they are still hidden behind dark chocolates, which seem to be left over.

Olivia's birthday, so a day dedicated to Olivia. That is, playing cat game Stray.

Since November, I had wanted to party in January. Even before covid, I used to go to a bar in January to celebrate a little Christmas and New Year's Eve, I'm not interested in crowds at those right times. I've always hoped that there would be fewer people at the bar in January because of the "sober January" custom here.

And now also because of the frost. The weather forecast first kept getting colder, but then finally got warmer. Well, in the end it was "only" 9 degrees below zero. It's better than 20 or more.

I can't really handle the cold without pants, that is, in a skirt or dress. Once I got cold feet despite wearing wool pants. And if I put on wool pants, it might get hot in the bar.

But because of the bad feeling I had on Tuesday, I didn't know if I would be able to party. Especially since I wanted to drink sparkling wine, which can cause me nausea. Of course, I didn't know if I would catch some contagious disease before then.

And then I noticed on Friday that my spray whipped cream is expired. And that's not all. I hear they should be used within 7-10 days of opening. I've been using them for many months after opening... What's the harm in eating spoiled whipped cream? At least I haven't noticed any symptoms.

At 10pm there was hardly anyone in Gloria, but it did get lively and there was a surprisingly good crowd on the dance floor. A Caipiroska now costs 11.20e at Gloria.

The timing was perfect, and I didn't have to freeze in the cold. When we were going to the bar, we could already see the bus coming when we went to the bus stop, so we deliberately left the staircase at the last minute. And when we were going home, the bus was already waiting at the departure stop in the city center.

When I woke up in the morning, everything was going well until I washed my hands in the bathroom. I felt sick and had to rush back to the lying position so I wouldn't throw up.

On Sunday, I was excited about whether Domen could match the record of consecutive podium finishes with Janne Ahonen in ski jumping. Well, Domen's race was a disaster, let's see how it goes from here.

 

Four Hills Tournament: Conspiracy theories

Domen Prevc dominated ski jumping heading into the Four Hills Tournament, so hopes were high. But Domen had never even been on the podium there before.

 

 

Oberstdorf

Last year, Domen did not make it to the second round of the competition.

Andreas Wellinger is back to lose again. Domen was second in both practice rounds. Domen won the qualifying round. Viaplay cut the broadcast before the duel pairs were shown.

Domen won by a landslide. I cheered in both rounds when Domen did not fall. I am constantly afraid that Domen will suffer the same fate as Mika Laitinen did exactly 30 years ago.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

In the first second training round, Timi and Domen DNS, should I be worried? I really thought that was the first. Domen had been sixth in the first training round, Timi third. Artti fell and got injured, his Olympics are in danger.

A qualification win for Domen.

On New Year's Day, Domen won everything. Buu to Yle's online broadcast that didn't show the award ceremony. Now I can't even trust that Yle would show it.

Innsbruck

Dome first and second in the training rounds, Hörl scares me.

Dome 30th in the qualification and Wellinger last to make it to the race, meaning the dream couple still didn't come true. For Austria quadruple victory, no one can do anything to the Austrian mafia. Except that after Wasek's disqualification (fluoride on skis), Wellinger was only second to last, and was faced by his old rival Kraft.

Twitter seems to know everything. It was known there that Kraft would never make it in Garmisch, but he would on the other hills of the hill week. And the fact that the only thing that could still threaten Domen's victory is the wind conditions in Innsbruck. +27 points from the wind in qualifying. I decided not to dare to watch Domen's first round jump in the competition, because defeat is completely possible. The tailwind could destroy Domen.

Domen's jump in the trial round was good, is there hope? I finally dared to watch Domen's jump, fourth after the first round, a jump 5 meters shorter than on the trial round.

First win for Ren, Domen second and Embacher third. Top3 within 0.7 points. Domen's lead in the Four Hills Tournament only grew, it is already 41.4 points. Ski jumping season has begun - Domen dominates

This is the live coverage of the 2025-2026 Ski Jumping World Cup season and its first part. Of course, I will only focus on my favorites, Slovenia's Domen Prevc and Germany's Andreas Wellinger.

Lillehammer

Friday

In the first training round of the season, Domen was DNS, Wellinger 97 meters. Domen won the second training round, Wellinger continued his misery.

In the mixed team competition, Domen was on the team, Wellinger was not. Japan won, Slovenia was second, Austria was third, only 1.2 points behind Slovenia.

Saturday

Wellinger did not qualify for the competition, i.e. taking a cue from Domen's start to last season. And Domen did not do very well either.

Domen was second after the first round, but I correctly predicted Austria's triple victory and Domen's fourth place.

Sunday

A time for celebration, Wellinger qualified for the competition. Domen second in qualifying.

Domen in the lead after the first round, Wellinger 40. Domen second in the race. Roju was predicted to win. How did it feel to "lose"?, knowing that Viaplay couldn't handle showing the awards ceremony.

It wasn't until Sunday that I found out that the season would continue on Tuesday. But there won't be any more ski jumping competitions in Sweden, right? Except then the horrible truth was revealed: Falun will have the world championship in 2027. Is Sweden a shit country?

Wellinger 33rd in qualifying on Tuesday's normal hill, Domen 44th. Going well and is Domen's self-confidence gone?

Consecutive places 16th and 17th after the first round. 13th and 19th in the final results.

Domen won the second practice round on Wednesday's big hill. Only 22nd in the qualifying, Wellinger 34th.

It was a big shock to see Domen in the first round: his cheek was bloody, meaning he had fallen at some point, apparently during that second practice round. Domen fourth, Wellinger has no business in the second round.

Domen third in the race won by Anze after the leader Stefan failed.

Ruka

Viaplay couldn't show Saturday's race except online, luckily Yle is on.

A rare treat to see Friday's qualifying, except that it was moved to Saturday. Domen 96 meters on a big hill, he still made it to the race. Good and even wind conditions? Is Finland a shit country?

In the race, Domen was third after the first round, and Wellinger was 7th. I was hoping that the second round would be canceled, and that's what happened in the middle of the second round. Isn't Finland a shit country? Especially when you can even see the award ceremony, thanks to Yle Areena. The red mittens or whatever kind of potholders made them laugh for some reason.

 

Sunday's race was cancelled due to wind conditions.

Wisla

On Friday I was scared when Domen was DNS in the second practice round, but he had won the first. In qualifying Domen 33rd, Wellinger 43rd. It's going well again.

Saturday

The trial round went horribly for both of them.

I can't emphasize enough how crappy Viaplay is. Even now it couldn't manage to show the race on TV at all, even though it's what it has been paid for. There were problems getting the online broadcast on the TV to put it mildly, it kept giving errors and took a while.

What the hell, Domen in the lead after the first round! Wellinger 39th.

Domensko won! What the hell is this inequality in which races he does well? What could be a better way to celebrate Finland's Independence Day than a Slovenian victory? The good thing about Viaplay's online broadcast alone is that you can even see the award ceremony, although you can't get screencaps, unlike Areena.

Sunday

What the hell is wrong with Viaplay not showing ski jumping on TV even though they promised to? They prefer to show the same reruns and filler programs a million times over!

Wellinger qualified last, Domen won the qualifying round.

In the first round, Wellinger was 47th. Domen's fourth after an overlong jump with a flat-footed landing, the coach's fault was that he didn't lower the platform!

During the break between rounds (at least twice as long as normal), a Pole said on Twitter that Domen failed (the longest jump of the round!), and would probably fail in the second round as well, unlike Zyla. I declared war on the Poles then!

Domen won the race by half a meter over Roju, and as expected Zyla failed. So Domen won my war against Poland!

Domen dominated! Won both races of the weekend!

Domen moved to the top of the World Cup. It's been almost 9 years since Domen last had a yellow vest.

Viaplay only managed to show the second round on TV. What's the point?

Klingenthal

Domen's first World Cup race was right here ten years ago, when he was 16.

 

 

Domen won the second practice round, Wellinger did not make it into the top 50. I have been asking for a long time why Wellinger does not stay home to practice? I asked the same thing about Domen a year ago...

In qualifying Domen is second after Raimund, who is hailed as a home favorite, Wellinger 35.

Luckily Yle is showing the Swiss races again. And as soon as Yle shows the races on TV, Viaplay will do the same?!

Wellinger is not there, he's training in Oberstorf and Planica.

Domen second in both practice rounds. 22nd in qualifying, so the downhill has started. Nobody can win forever.

Saturday

Domen second again in the practice round. Third after the first round.

Fifth consecutive win for Domen!

I had to go and see what the record for consecutive World Cup wins is. It's six wins in a row, which many jumpers, including Janne Ahonen, have.

Sunday

Domen second in qualifying.

Before the race, I heard that it was windy in Engelberg. I just hoped that everyone would survive. When consecutive jumpers have over 10 meters difference in to beat... a real wind lottery.

Domen shared first place with Raimund after the first round. I was pretty sure there wouldn't be a second round, but they didn't cancel, which is outrageous.

Domen's second in a race won by Roju, meaning he still couldn't get ahead of his brother anywhere. Even Yle Areena couldn't manage to show the awards ceremony, boo.

So Domen's reign of terror is over, conveniently just before the big week.

 

I guess this first part of the season has to be published before that week, otherwise the text will be too long.

 

Moments before destruction

It's annoying when I have to stop reading and writing because of eye pain and overburdening them. When reading and writing is too much for my eyes. I don't know what to do about it. Should I send my eyes on a (beach) vacation somewhere?

With my eyes and neck aching, I then wrote three different short stories at the same time. They went quite well, I even finished one of them.

 

 

 

I was so stressed out about the end of the ski jumping season that it was hard to sleep the next night because my heart was beating too much. Spectator sports are tough, it takes a toll. If I'm still alive when the next season starts, I should come up with something because I don't want to pay a penny to the crappy Viaplay. Why can't I get Polish Eurosport, for example? Except through illegal streams. Well, Viaplay just announced a cheaper package that would even include ski jumping.

Red Bull organized its own ski jumping event in Poland after the season ended. Who was responsible for the safety of that? They jumped at terrible speeds and I really saw red when Domen Prevc fell his too long jump. He was so high up at the end of the hill. Many meters above the hill record. They would have to pay a lot of money to compensate for a possible injury or worse. Life-threatening activity.

I went to the library again. It was a bit annoying when the return machine couldn't accept the course book. That crappy, heavy (2.1 kg!) and abnormal book in every way.

Spoiler from tv-show ER, beware!

I got to continue watching ER, in the sixth season, when the episodes shown on a free channel here progressed to that point. It's so bad to watch Lucy spend many episodes worrying about a patient her age who needs a heart transplant. Lucy doesn't know that she herself doesn't have much time left to live. I've probably watched the sixth season episode "All in the Family" dozens of times in total.

 

 

 

I was totally shocked when I saw that the episode "Be Still My Heart" that was airing on tv here had been cut. The legendary ending scene had actually been shortened! The TV version was missing the scene where Carter tries to get up, and then the zoom in on Carter's eyes when he sees Lucy in horror. I've seen that scene so many times that I know it by heart, so I knew right away that something was seriously wrong. What a bloody sacrilege to cut the episode! I can't stand it! If they have to cut the episode, they should take out some less important scene!

Then I waited to see how badly the next day's All in the Family had been cut... well, I didn't notice anything. I started wondering if ER has been cut in streaming services. Many TV series fall victim to the slaughter when the music is changed for the DVD release.

 

Ending the ski jumping season with a world record!

Is there life after the ski jumping scandal? Hardly.

This is a live tracking post of ski jumping World Cup season, focused on my two favorite jumpers, Domen Prevc and Andreas Wellinger.

Oslo or some Norway, Raw Air

Andreas Wellinger lost the qualification by 0.1 point to Geiger! What a bloody nerve-wracking move from Karl.

In the first round, Karl beat Domen Prevc by 0.1 point! What a bloody Karl! Beat both my favorites by 0.1 point.

The situation after the first round: Wellinger 2nd, Domen fourth 0.1 point from third place. A joint podium would be so close, but so far away.

In the final results, Domen was 5th, Wellinger 7th. Their difference was 0.4 points. So pretty close to a shared place, if not a shared podium.

Special notes from the competition: Timi has a much cleaner ass than Domen.

A double win for my favourites in the first practice round, Domen first. When could I see something like that in a competition? Domen won the second practice round... as I've always said, he was made to fly... when the jump hits the mark on a ski flying hill, he goes very far...

Domen won the qualifying round, meaning he won all three rounds. So no winning in the competition itself?

"Why couldn't this be a competition day?"

 

 

 

Saturday

The practice round was cancelled, so that is a good sign?

I was ready to do something drastic on Viaplay's headquarters when I found out that they don't show the competition on TV at all. What the hell is Viaplay being paid for? It's just fucking stupid to pay to Viaplay.

So I can't even get a tape of Domen's win so I can feel it afterwards.

After the first round, Wellinger was in the lead, Domen was fourth.

In the second round, Domen jumped a good jump, but fell. Wellinger won, Domen was fifth. Without the fall, both would probably have been on the podium, probably a double win!!

One good thing about it is that Viaplay only had an online broadcast, they showed everything until the end, so I saw the award ceremony, which is rare.

Wellinger, the wrong winner? When I was hoping for Domen.

I hope Domen's ankle isn't sore tomorrow.

Still no competition on TV. You are pure shit, Viaplay. I've started to suspect that the reason why the TV doesn't record ski jumping is not the TV but Viaplay. Recordings from other channels are successful.

The start of the competition was delayed due to the wind, and there was just one round.

Double win for Domen and Wellinger! Personal best 247m for Domen!

Wellinger won Raw Air for the first time, Domen was second. Without his fall yesterday, Domen would have won both.

So two double wins and a joint podium! Dream come true! I even saw all the podiums!

How can it be that They are both winners!!

Wellinger led the qualifying, but a couple of outrageous Austrian guys pushed ahead. Thank you Yle for moving the qualifying from television to Arena right at the time of Domen.

Wellinger 6th in the race. Domen biggest loser in the second round, 15 places down.

I don't understand why there was a crowd in the Lahti hill. Was it because of Ahonen and Nieminen? It was nice that they organized that, but I was scared whether they would come down from the tower alive. I even dared to watch Ahonen's jump.

(Like someone on Twitter said: This is a great time for Ahonen to make a comeback, so he can be 4th in the Olympics next winter)

Stupid superteam. Why do I remember that before in Lahti there were always two individual competitions and an evening team competition?

Domen had no place in the team, he was only the fourth best Slovenian on Saturday.

Slovenia won, Germany fourth (again). But Domen got to be in the group photo of the winning team. Nice to stay there for an extra day for nothing?

 

 

Planica

Thursday's second practice round: Wellinger won, Domen second. Later I found out that Domen jumped 246.5 in the first practice round, half a meter away from his recent personal best. Deep squat landing, scary.

Wellinger won the last qualifying round of the season, Domen fourth. Eisenbichler, who is ending his career, third.

Who will win the ski flying cup? What about Planica 7?

Friday

Domen won the practice round.

After the first round, Domen was second after Anze. Domen's wind gap was not optimal. Wellinger 6th. Domen took the lead in Planica 7, taking the lead from Wellinger. After his jump, Domen explained to Peter how it went.

Domen won the competition. Wellinger 6th. Domen also secured the ski flying world cup victory. Best flier!

 

 

 

 

Damn, those ski flying jumps always scare the hell out of me. It's too dangerous.

 

 

Saturday

After the first round of the team competition, things were pretty well in the oven for both my favorite's teams to get on the podium, with Germany in second and Slovenia in third.

In the second round, Slovenia fell to fourth after Kos. In the final results, Germany was second, Slovenia third. The last jump of Eisenbichler's career, and in honor of that, as an anchor. And of course, no podiums were shown. And since the default is that tomorrow's award ceremonies won't be shown anywhere, it's a bit of a bummer. I want to see all the globes! Domen strengthened his lead in Planica 7.

I wanted to cry when I noticed that my recording of Domen's amazing victory the day before doesn't work. "Unknown error." Fuck you, TV. I had already thought how great it would feel to watch that victory at any time. Well, of course not. What in this life would work? 

 

 

Sunday

I realized on Friday night that the clock change is at a bad time. Should we turn them so that the competition is even earlier than normal? Instead of 10:30, it's already 9:30? And how does the TV alarm clock work if the clocks are changed in the middle of everything? Whhich alarm time does it have to be, old or new time? Luckily, I have a cell phone that doesn't change its time by itself, so I can set it to wake me up. Well, two clocks woke me up at the same time.

Domen won the trial round. Why did Michael Hayböck, about to finish his career, not want to participate in the competition, even though he could have? The best 30 overall in the World Cup can participate. Or the best 30 people present...

In the first round, Domen's 245m wasn't enough to take the lead, when Anze outrageously passed with a new (better than Domen's) personal best. Wellinger was 4th.

 

 

WORLD RECORD!

 

On the second round, Domen jumped a world record, 254.5m. It was a touch and go would it be deemed as fallen, but no. His brother Cene was the first to rush to congratulate him.

 

 

 

Even the world record wasn't enough to win the competition. Sorry Anze, but Domen is the moral winner. Wellinger was third, so both my favorites were on the podium! They are both losers!

 

 

 

 

Domen won Planica 7. And the ski flying world cup, Wellinger was third in that.

 

 

 

By some miracle I was able to see all the victory ceremonies.
 

Viaplay is a complete shit show, and this fact proves it: if it had been up to Viaplay alone, I wouldn't have seen a single award ceremony.

Even though I couldn't believe it after Friday, the season couldn't have ended any better.

After Domen's nightmarish start to the season, the rest of the season went incredibly well. Victories, world championship golds and, as the cherry on top, a world record! 

 

 

Domen's 2024-25 season would be a great movie, the drama would be spot on.
